Fernanda Faini

Fernanda Faini is an Associate Professor of Legal Informatics (Philosophy of Law) at the Department of Law, where she is responsible for research and teaches “Digital Law and Legal Informatics” and “Digital Technologies and Cybersecurity”. 

Member of the Centre for Environmental, Sustainability and Governance Studies (ESG), the Centre for Research on Sovereignty (CRUS) and TechEthics Observatory, she is Director of the Master’s programme in “Anti-corruption, Transparency and Privacy”, Principal Investigator of the research project “Data Law and Management” and a member of the PRA research projects “Sustainable Innovation in Cultural and Creative Industries” and “The Dream of Law: Classical Liberalism and the State”. 

She is Deputy Director of the Interuniversity Research Centre for Law and Ethics of Innovation, Technology and Artificial Intelligence (LEITAI), a joint initiative of the San Raffaele, Pegaso, and Mercatorum Universities.

She graduated with honours (cum laude) in Law from the University of Florence and obtained a PhD in Law and New Technologies with distinction from the University of Bologna. She has served as a research fellow and lecturer in ICT & Law at the Universities of Pisa, Cattolica, and Florence, and has taught in various other university courses and Master’s programmes.

In 2022, she was awarded the 7th Vittorio Frosini International Prize in Legal Informatics. 

In 2025, she obtained national scientific qualification as Full Professor of Philosophy of Law.

A member of the Istat Big Data Committee, the AgID AI task force, and the MISE blockchain expert group, she has coordinated national consultations and working groups and was President of the Circolo dei Giuristi Telematici (Association of IT Lawyers). A member of research centres and groups, editorial and scientific committees, and government task forces, she is also a member of several scientific associations and an organiser and speaker at conferences and conventions.

She has authored over 60 publications, including three monographs: Scienza giuridica e tecnologie informatiche. Temi e problemi (2nd completely revised edition, Giappichelli, 2021), Data society. Governo dei dati e tutela dei diritti nell’era digitale (Giuffrè Francis Lefebvre, 2019) and Scienza giuridica e tecnologie informatiche (Giappichelli, 2017).
